Science is taught in 6 laboratories, which have access to computers and interactive whiteboards. The Science Department is equipped so that practical work takes place whenever it is appropriate. Four preparation rooms adjoin the laboratories.
All girls follow a Science course in Key Stages 3 and 4.
At Key Stage 3 the National Curriculum is taught, based on the Scienceworks scheme. Science is allocated 4 periods a week in each of years 7 and 8.
Year 9 and 10 students are following GCSE courses examined by AQA.
Year 9 students have started their Triple award Science GCSEs– studying the separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics courses. They will sit their first GCSE examinations in the summer of Year 9. Science is allocated 4 periods a week in Year 9.
Year 10 students are following the Double Award course. They will sit their first examinations in the summer of Year 10.
Y11 are studying the Twenty First Century Additional Science course examined by OCR. They will sit their first examination in January and the remainder in the summer.
6 periods per week are allocated to Science in Years 10 and 11.
In the Sixth Form courses are offered in Biology, Chemistry and Physics to AS and A Level.
