Science is taught in 6 laboratories, which have access to computers and interactive whiteboards. The Science Department is equipped so that practical work takes place whenever it is appropriate. Four preparation rooms adjoin the laboratories.
All girls follow a Science course in Key Stages 3 and 4.
At Key Stage 3 the National Curriculum is taught, based on the Hodder Science scheme. Science is allocated 4 periods a week in each of years 7,8 and 9. The End of Key Stage Test is taken during the Summer Term of Year 9.
At Key Stage 4 girls study for the Twenty First Century Science and Additional Science GCSEs examined by OCR.
Girls take the written papers and complete the Case Study for the Science GCSE during Year 10, completing the coursework during Year 11.
In Year 11 girls complete all requirements for the Additional Science GCSE. Most girls take the Higher Tier papers, giving access to all GCSE grades.
6 periods per week are allocated to Science in Years 10 and 11.
The textbooks used are Twenty First Century GCSE Science (Oxford) and Twenty First Century Additional Science (Oxford).
In the Sixth Form courses are offered in Biology, Chemistry and Physics to AS and A Level.
