Religious Education forms an integral part of Dover Grammar School for Girls. The department is committed to providing a high standard of Religious Education, in which pupils can develop their own beliefs and values whilst exploring the principal world religions and their practices. The department works hard to increase the spiritual awareness of all pupils and to develop an appreciation of the world we live in and those around us.

The department follows the Kent Agreed Syllabus 2000 in Years 7 and 8. Pupils in Years 9 and 10 follow the Short Course GCSE in Religious Studies, whilst Year 11 follow a non-examination course in Religious Studies. At AS and A2, the Department offers the Edexcel course in Philosophy of Religion and Religious Ethics.

Pupils in Year 7 - 11 receive one lesson each week. Lessons are carefully planned to make them stimulating, enjoyable, interesting and thought provoking.

Assessments take place each term. Pupils are given constructive feedback and a target by their teacher each term to supplement their own target. Both targets are evaluated on a regular basis, in order to raise standards. Year 7 and 8 pupils are assessed according to the Kent Agreed Syllabus Key Stage 3 levels, whilst Year 9 work is also marked according to the GCSE criteria laid down by the Edexcel examination board. Year 10 pupils are only assessed according to the Edexcel GCSE requirements. To ensure standardisation between DGGS and other schools, the department uses the ncaction.org.uk website.
