Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 & 9)

When girls enter the school in Year 7, they are placed in mixed ability forms. They study a wide range of subjects, working mainly in form groups:

Art   English   French   Geography   History   ICT   Latin  Mathematics   Music  PSE PE

Performing Arts Religious Studies   Science   Technology

This programme covers all ten core and foundation subjects of the National Curriculum. Performing Arts is taught in Year 7 and 8. In Year 8, pupils begin German and can choose Spanish in Year 9, Drama or additional PE. Careers Education is introduced in Year 9 PSE, when subject choices are made for GCSE courses. A special booklet decribes the subjects available and a meeting is arranged so that teachers can explain and discuss individual choices with each pupil and her parents.

Teaching time at KS3: 25 hours per week.


Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)

In Key Stage 4, pupils continue to study a broad and balanced curriculum. Each pupil takes nine full GCSE subjects, short courses in IT and a half GCSE in RS and non-examination courses in PE and PSHE. GCSE subjects must include: English, English Literature, Mathematics, Science (Double Award), at least one Modern Foreign Language and either History or Geography (or both). Thus, the GCSE subjects are:

Art   Business Studies and Economics   Design Technology   Drama  English  

English Literature   French  Geography  German  History   Latin   Mathematics   Music   Science   Spanish
