Author Visits

Caroline Lawrence. 15th October 2009

On Thursday 15th October author Caroline Lawrence visited DGGS. Caroline is an award winning author who wrote the Roman Mysteries series of books. She spoke to year 7 , 8 and Year 9 Latin students at DGGS. The whole of year 7 from DGSB also came to the talk as well as 25 students from Eastry Primary schopol currently studying Primary Latin. It was a fun day and lots of people got the opportunity to talk to Caroline and get books signed. Karen McCombie. 7th November 2008.

On Friday 7th November best selling author Karen McCombie visited DGGS. Karen presented a very amusing and entertaining talk to year 8 students about how she became an author and where she got her ideas from. This was an excellent day and enjoyed by all those involved.

Joseph Delaney. 21st October 2008.

On Tuesday 21st October year 7 students visited DGSB to listen to a talk by author Joseph Delaney. Joseph talked about his 'Spooks Apprentice' books and where he got his ideas from. Girls then gor the opportunity to buy books and get them signed.

Meg Cabot. 19th September 2008.

On Friday 19th September Hollywood author Meg Cabot visited DGGS. Meg is most famous for witing the Princess Diaries series. Meg presented a talk to the whole of KS3 about her books and films and signed hundreds of books. She also officially opened our new Library after its recent refurbishment over the summer. It was a very exciting and hugely succesful day.

F.E Higgins. 27th March 2008.

F.E Higgins is tipped to be the next big thing in children's literature. Her first book The Black Book of Secrets is going to be made into a film soon. Therefore it was very exciting to receive a visit from Fionna who visited DGGS to talk to Year 7 about her latest book The Bone Magician. It was great fun as the girls got to act out various scenes from the books using props.

Kate Cann. 11th March 2008.

On Tuesday 11th March award winning author Kate Cann visited DGGS. Kate spoke to the whole of Year 10 about how she became an author and what inspired her. She then ran a spooky gothic workshop based around her book Leaving Poppy were the girls had to imagine how they would react to various different scenarios. During lunchtime Kate signed books in the LIbrary and was available to talk to girls on an individual basis.

Kelly McKain. 17th January 2008.

On Thursday 17th January 2008 the Library and English department organised a visit for Year 7 from international best selling author Kelly McKain. Kelly is famous for her Totally Lucy series of books. She ran a series of workshops and talked to the girls about writing, and how to design characters and create stories. She also signed lots of books and ran a special session for keen writiers.

Michelle Paver. 28th September 2007.

On Friday 28th September Year 8 went to Dover Grammar School for Boys to meet author Michelle Paver. Michelle is famous for writing the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series. She was there to promote her latest book Outcast. The girls listened to a talk by Michelle about how she researched her books. They then had the opportunity to ask questions and get books signed. It was a very interesting and fun visit that was enjoyed by all those involved and an example of the link between both schools.
